Park cost three times city budget!

When the authorities first asked for design proposals for a city park, the maximum budget was to be $1,500,000. This was an enormous sum at the time, particularly considering that the 1850 budget for the entire city was $4,000,000 and the city’s debt was already at $14,000,000!

But the Greensward plan, as the winning proposal was known, cost a lot more; the land alone cost $5,000,000 – the entire project: $12,500,000. So the project ran 733% over-budget, and no one thought to scale it down even a little?

The question is, who had enough influence to protect the project through all this?

Gateway to Hell!

In every mythology since the dawn of time, the Gates of Hell are guarded by a dog: Cerberus, Anubis, Garm, Xolotl, T’ien k’uan… The list goes on and on.

What dark designs were hatching in the minds of Central Park’s creators when they decided to conceal a dog’s head in the park’s layout? Did they think nobody would notice? After all there was no satellite photography at the time.

But times have changed, and the gruesome guardian is now revealed for all to see. Look for yourself!

Mutant Trees

With such incredible diversity of plants and animals, at the very heart of the metropolis, what a wonderful place Central Park is. Or is it? A closer look reveals a steady increase in the number of sickly, blighted and malformed trees.

Certainly The Mall is lined with stately elms, the shores with gracious willows, but venture into the less frequented recesses of the park, and you will discover twisted, misshapen, afflicted bows and trunks that cast a sinister pall over the darker corners of this seeming paradise…

What is causing these malignant diseases and deformities?
